Louis Rees-Zammit may be chasing his dream across the pond, but he's still keeping an eye on rugby developments back home.

Earlier this year, the ex-Gloucester wing shocked fans by announcing his departure from rugby to pursue a career in the NFL. Initially snapped up by the Kansas City Chiefs, the 23 year old Welshman didn't survive the final squad trim and was let go during the cut-down to 53 players.

A second chance came knocking with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who saw potential in him as a wide receiver and added him to their practice squad after he remained unclaimed on waivers - but he is still yet to be offered the chance to make an impact.

And despite continuing his push to achieve his Stateside dream, Rees-Zammit's heart remains with the sport that made his name. He caught the Cherry and Whites' nail-biting victory over Bristol Bears on Friday night, showing his support from afar.

The match itself was rich with Welsh talent; stars Tomos Williams and Gareth Anscombe played pivotal roles in the 44-41 win, closely observed by Warren Gatland. Welsh prospects like Max Llewellyn stood out, as did Welsh-eligible lock Freddie Thomas.

In true supporter spirit, Rees-Zammit posted an image of himself watching the game from the US, calling out Llewellyn, Anscombe, and Williams as "running the show", flaunting a Wales flag for good measure.

Anscombe and Williams dazzled with a superb play for the visitors at Ashton Gate, prompting Rees-Zammit to celebrate the "hugeeeeeee" outcome in a follow-up Instagram post.

Despite not making the splash in the US he might have hoped for initially, Rees-Zammit's resolve to make it in American football hasn't wavered as he gears up for his debut season.

Brushing off the critics, Rees-Zammit declared after joining the Jags: "I don't really care about haters," adding, "They can say what they want behind their phones, behind their laptops making comments."

He continued to dismiss the negativity, stating, "I don't listen to that kind of stuff. I know what I've got to do to be successful and they can write all they want. I'm working really hard on this dream and I've got to try and do as much as I can every day to be a better football player and a better person."
