Scottish Premiership star Mohamed Sylla was taken to hospital after collapsing in the dressing room at half time of Dundee's 2-1 loss to Aberdeen on Saturday.

Sylla started the game at Dens Park but soon became unwell after going off the pitch at the interval as concerned team-mates were moved into the tunnel to allow doctors to aid the 30-year-old.

He was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, with manager Tony Docherty revealing the player is responsive after admitting the incident "wasn't a nice thing to see".

"Mo took a turn at half-time," he said. "It wasn’t a nice thing to see. The medics were involved and we had to get the players out of there. He’s responsive. He’s in hospital right now. We’ll just need to assess that and see how he is."

The Frenchman will be known to some English football fans after playing for Oldham Athletic in the 2019-20 season before returning to his native France to play for Ligue 2 outfit Laval. He then came back to England to play for Aldershot Town in 2021 and Hartlepool the following year before joining his current side Dundee.

He has become a key player for Dundee as he featured 25 times last season and he he started all six of the club's Scottish Premiership matches this term.

The news comes with Dundee already struck with sad news after former player Fabian Cabellero died aged 46 following a heart attack.

Cabellero - who also featured for Arsenal on loan - was a cult hero for Dundee after playing 142 times between 2000 and 2005, scoring 27 times, and was honoured with a pre-match applause.

Docherty paid tribute to Caballero after the game, calling him a "larger than life character" and said the team were "saddened" by his death.

“We’re really saddened. The Dundee family are mourning the loss of a brilliant servant to the football club. Huge condolences and sympathy goes out to his family. He was here last year for Cammy Kerr’s testimonial and was a larger than life character.

“You can see why he made his mark at Dundee and there is huge respect for him. As the Dundee FC family, we mourn his loss.”
