Ex-Arsenal star Rob Holding's career hits humiliating new low after Crystal Palace snub

Rob Holding left Arsenal for Crystal Palace at the end of last summer's transfer window, but has endured a wretched time at Selhurst Park having had a falling out with boss Oliver Glasner

Rob Holding has hit a fresh low just over a year after leaving Arsenal for Crystal Palace.

Holding joined the Eagles in a £4million deal from the Gunners last summer, but since then has made just one appearance in all competitions. That came in a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup last season.

Instead, the centre-back has been forced to settle for a place on the bench and has never been brought on in the Premier League. His sole appearance this season came as an unused substitute in the defeat to West Ham.

The 29-year-old now looks set for an extended period on the sidelines after being left out of their team photo. A total of 48 players and staff from both the men's and women's teams gathered for the photo at Selhurst Park.

But Holding was nowhere to be seen, potentially signalling the end of his time at Selhurst Park. The Englishman had been named in in Palace's squad for the Premier League season, though it looks likely he will not be making an appearance for them.

Palace boss Oliver Glasner has only disclosed that Holding is training away from the first-team. The Austrian has refused to discuss exactly whey the defender has been banished but did insist Holding is aware of the reason.

He said: “Rob (Holding) is training individually at the moment. We will talk together. He knows the reason, but it is something that stays between me and Rob. Nothing public.”

According to The Athletic, Holding's absence stems from that defeat to West Ham, when he was left on the bench. It is claimed Glasner ordered a post-match running session for thos not involved in the game.

But Holding is said to have objected to taking part over injury concerns. While he eventually did take part, Glasner is said to have immediately instructed him to train with the club's Under-23s side.

That is where he has been training ever since. Holding even started for the Eagles' Under-23s side in a 3-1 win over Gillingham in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday, lining up alongside 17-year-old Mofe Jemide.

Curiously, Holding has also removed all references to the club from his Instagram page. The centre-back still has another 18 months to run on the contract he signed when he joined Palace from Arsenal last summer.

It has been a miserable season for Palace so far, with Glasner's side winless after five games. They travel to Everton on Saturday having held Manchester United to a goalless draw last weekend.
