England squad announced with Harry Maguire and three others axed as Cole Palmer returns

Lee Carsley has made a number of major changes to his England squad for the upcoming internationals, with Cole Palmer and Jude Bellingham both fit and returning

Harry Maguire has been axed from England’s squad for the Nations League double header with Greece and Finland.

Manchester United defender Maguire is fit and has travelled to Porto for their Europa League tie but did not make the 25 man squad. But there is a reprieve for Kyle Walker as the Manchester City veteran missed out last month.

Dominic Solanke is the only new call-up for this squad as interim boss Lee Carsley gives the Tottenham striker an audition.

Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden are all fit and are back in the squad. Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze misses out too, as does Jarrod Bowen and Tino Livramento.

Carsley has vowed to only pick players who are in form and playing regularly for their club sides. Maguire has been in and out of United's side under Erik ten Hag, with Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez now seemingly his first-choice centre-back pairing.

Maguire, who was a mainstay under Gareth Southgate, regardless of his club issues in the past two years, but who missed Euro 2024, has played for United in recent weeks, but it hasn't been enough to persuade the interim England chief.

Solanke offers another central attacking option, along with Ollie Watkins, as back up to captain Harry Kane for the fixtures, while Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White and Angel Gomes both keep their place within the midfield ranks.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, so impressive in last month's matches, is likely to get the nod at right-back once more, but Kyle Walker is included. The bigger issue defensively remains at left back, where there is again no natural choice, meaning either Man City's Rico Lewis or Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill are likely to get the nod.
