Man Utd news: Ruben Amorim warning after Erik ten Hag theory emerges
Ruben Amorim is less than a week away from taking charge at Manchester United but one former manager has warned the new boss to brace himself for intense media attention
by Alan Smith · The MirrorThere is less than a week to go before Ruben Amorim officially takes charge of Manchester United.
But interim head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy still has two matches to go before the international break with home fixtures versus PAOK, in the Europa League on Thursday night, and Leicester in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
And after a battling draw with Chelsea on Sunday that ensures United remain in the bottom half of the Premier League table, there remains precious little patience around Old Trafford with one former manager warning Amorim that he is about to face far more stress than he has ever faced before.
Here are the big stories from in and around the club.
Moyes' message
David Moyes has warned incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim that he faces incomparable pressure and media attention but the former boss admits being in charge at Old Trafford “is a huge privilege.”
Amorim will officially begin next week, during the international break, having been appointed as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.
And while United languish in the bottom half of the Premier League table, there remains huge expectation that Amorim can deliver fast at what Moyes believes is still the world ’s biggest club.
Player doubts
David Moyes has said he “hates the thought” that Manchester United players were deliberately underperforming during the final days of Erik ten Hag’s reign at Old Trafford.
The former United boss, who was speaking on the BBC ’s Premier League Review, believes that performances have improved in the past week - with a midweek thrashing of Leicester City in the EFL Cup followed by Sunday’s draw against Chelsea.
Redknapp rap
Jamie Redknapp branded Manchester United's clash with Chelsea a 'pub game' as he fumed at the two sides for their performances in Sunday's draw.
The Blues travelled to United hoping to jump back above Nottingham Forest and into third place. The Red Devils meanwhile have endured an awful season and sacked manager Erik ten Hag last Monday.
Their first Premier League outing since that move was a largely drab affair with both teams disappointing. Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring from the penalty spot with 20 minutes to go, before Mosies Caicedo equalised soon-after with a well-taken volley.
