Ederson reveals what he really thinks of Pep Guardiola after Man City boss blocked exit

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has been speaking about Pep Guardiola and how demanding he can be during an event to mark Children's Day in his native Brazil

Ederson has lauded Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola - but admits the Spaniard can be "sometimes annoying".

The 31-year-old was signed by Guardiola back in 2017 and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the top goalkeepers in Europe, winning six Premier League titles and the Champions League in the process.

Under Guardiola's stewardship, Ederson and co are now targeting a record-extending fifth consecutive domestic crown. And while Ederson was quick to point out Guardiola's good qualities during an event to mark Children's Day in his native Brazil, he also gave some honest insight into how demanding the former Barcelona chief can be.

“You're going to get me in trouble!," Ederson quipped to ESPN Brasil when he was asked by a child if Guardiola is nice, annoying or angry.

“He's all three ... He's a nice guy, he's sometimes annoying, in the sense of [being] demanding, because he has to [be] demanding to a professional, and he's also angry when he has to be angry.

“So he has a mixture of all three. But he's a nice guy off the pitch, and he's a very, very demanding guy on it. And he's also a guy who gets angry like any other person, like any other coach, when things don't go well, when the team doesn't play well.

“Of course, we know that we're not going to be able to play 70 games at a brilliant level, of course, in one game or another, there's going to be a dip.”

Pep Guardiola has admitted he did not want to let Ederson move to Saudi Arabia( Image: PA)

Ederson was the subject of strong interest from Saudi Arabia back in the summer and, at one point, it seemed likely he would leave The Etihad given the lucrative contract that was on offer overseas. Guardiola was reluctant to lose him, though, and City stood firm on their valuation in order to retain his services.

Guardiola admitted earlier this week that he felt very fortunate to still be able to call upon the Brazil star when he was asked if said interest had worried him. “Yes of course. He’s an important figure with our team.

“Of course at the end it didn’t happen. We are lucky to have him. Hopefully, he’s happy. He knew from day one I didn’t want it, we didn’t want it.

“The truth is the offer didn’t come - the real offer, because they made an offer, but for the keeper of the team who won four Premier Leagues in a row, they have a value, a price. Otherwise, he cannot leave.

“If the offer (had come) maybe he would not be here. This is the truth. Ederson is so strong. It can be an idea (to leave) but after, when they change their mind, in one second they say, ‘OK, I’m here, I’m going to do my best’.”
