Son Heung-Min will be missing for Spurs' clash with Man United

Tottenham dealt brutal injury blow moments before crucial Man Utd clash

Tottenham travel to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon but boss Ange Postecoglou is set to be without his captain Son Heung-min who will be on the sidelines at Old Trafford

Tottenham are without captain Son Heung-min against Manchester United after he was pulled out on the eve of the match through injury.

The North London side go to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon but will be without their skipper.

The South Korean was substituted in midweek as Spurs eased to a 3-0 Europa League success against Qarabag with a hamstring injury. And that has been enough to sideline him for the meeting with Erik ten Hag's men.

The 32-year-old had started the season in bright form with two goals and two assists from five Premier League appearances so far. Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou had previously been optimistic of the forward appearing given the game is a Sunday fixture rather than Saturday, but the extra 24 hours merely confirmed that the club captain wouldn't be able to take part.

"Sonny, I don’t think is too bad," the Australian boss had said in his pre-match press conference. "He wants to train tomorrow (Saturday) and we will see how it goes and make a decision from there. We have another day up our sleeve to give him every chance."

Son's absence means Timo Werner steps in, with summer signing Wilson Odobert also sidelined. He is expected to be out until after the international break as he attempts to recover from a thigh injury.

Werner joins an attack with Brennan Johnson having found form and £60million Dominic Solanke having scored in each of his last two appearances, a record he is keen to extend at Old Trafford.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's game, he said: “We are not scared of anyone so we will go there and be on the front foot. One of the reasons why I was so delighted to come to Tottenham was the play style. It suits me. I love it. When the team is playing well, we can dominate games. The way that we play will create chances for me.”

A surprising choice sees Yves Bissouma left out in an attacking Spurs lineup, with Rodrigo Bentancur the only holding midfielder. James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski both start.

Starting XI: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bentancur, Maddison, Kulusevski; Johnson, Werner, Solanke

Subs: Forster, Spence, Dragusin, Gray, Bissouma, Bergvall, Sarr, Moore, Lankshear
