Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi and his family have already given their verdicts on the prospect of taking the Manchester United job.

Inzaghi has emerged as one of the game’s leading coaches, having steered the Italian giant to last season’s Serie A title and two Coppa Italia triumphs since taking charge in 2021. The 48-year-old has also proven himself on the European stage, guiding Inter to the 2023 Champions League final and holding Manchester City to a draw at the Etihad Stadium earlier this month.

The Daily Star has reported that Inzaghi would be a serious contender to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, alongside former England boss Gareth Southgate. It has been claimed that United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will consider the manager’s future during the October international break, despite giving Ten Hag a one-year contract extension in the summer.

The focus on Ten Hag’s future at United has intensified after his side’s 3-0 collapse to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. However, it is not the first time that Inzaghi has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and the Inter manager gave his views on a possible move earlier this year.

“Yes, I feel great here, with this club, with the boys and with the fans,” Inzaghi said in February, with his concentration on securing the league title. “There's no point in talking about it, we still have three months to keep our concentration crazy. We don't care about anything else, the club itself wants us to continue playing in the same way."

Italian outlet Inter Live recently suggested that Inzaghi has admirers in the Premier League and would be ‘fascinated’ by the United job. However, Inzaghi has remained committed to the club, signing a new deal until 2026 in July, and his father reiterated a similar message when previously asked about his son’s managerial career.

“Future in the Premier League? From abroad, I witnessed a bombardment that lasted several days,” Giancarlo Inzaghi told Tuttomercatoweb in April. “But Inter remained in my mind. It is a club with serious people and there’s a good relationship (between Inzaghi and the bosses).

“There may have been a few clouds, but they are decent people and you couldn’t ask for anything better. And, in any case, (Inzaghi) costs dearly now!”

Despite the Inzaghi family’s insistence, the Inter boss will be discussed as a potential option as United continue to struggle. Erik ten Hag’s side sit 12th in the league table and have won two of their last seven games, but the Dutch coach was adamant that he was not worried about facing the sack.

"No I am not thinking about this,” Ten Hag said. “We all made this decision to stay together in summer, as ownership group, leadership group. Also we made the decision, after a clear review, what we have to improve as an organisation and how to construct a squad.

"All decisions made in togetherness, also knowing it would take some time. We are all there on one page, one boat, the ownership, the leadership group, the staff, players too."
