Man Utd news: Erik ten Hag backed to keep his job as Leny Yoro closes on return

Erik ten Hag is back under pressure following Manchester United's awful start to the season but is hoping to kickstart the campaign against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon

Erik ten Hag has been backed to keep his job despite Manchester United's awful start.

The Red Devils have won just three games in all competitions, with one of those victories coming against League One Barnsley. The pressure is now starting to ramp up on the Dutchman, who was only handed a new contract in the summer.

But Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has put his full backing behind Ten Hag. The two sides meet on Sunday afternoon, with Postecoglou now hailing the Unitted boss for his work at Old Trafford.

Postecoglou's backing comes with star summer signing Leny Yoro closing in on a return to fitness after being injured in pre-season. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United news.

Ten Hag backed amid struggles

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has hailed Erik ten Hag despite the growing pressure on the Manchester United manager. Ten Hag has led his side to just three wins this term, but Postecoglou believes he is still the right man for the job.

"Erik's in a real tough job. He's done really well. He keeps mentioning he's won two trophies and he has, so I don't think that's insignificant. I think he's done a great job and like I said, a difficult job and at Old Trafford, it's tough there," he said.

"You look at their record irrespective of the managers, it's still a fairly compelling record there and they've got some real quality players. So, we had a really good game there last year. We ended up 2-2 and it was a cracking game and yeah, it's one we're going to be ready for."

Shearer questions Rashford move

Alan Shearer has tipped Marcus Rashford to immediately retake his place in the starting line-up( Image: IAN KINGTON/AFP via Getty Images)

Alan Shearer believes Marcus Rashford will be straight back into the starting line-up after being dropped for last week's draw at Crystal Palace. Shearer has admitted he is still struggling to understand that decision and thinks the attacker should start against Spurs.

"It was really interesting of Ten Hag to leave Marcus Rashford out, which I found really strange," he told Betfair. "Whether it was because of a knock or for a disciplinary reason, whatever it was, when you're a forward and you haven't scored for such a long time, you get your goal and then another two in midweek, then you're left out three or four days later.

"I found it really strange. My guess is that he'll be back in the team this week and if he can take the form from the last two games, he'll be a key figure in what happens for Man United. He always is."

Yoro update issued

Erik ten Hag has issued a positive update on summer signing Leny Yoro. The defender cracked a metatarsal in a pre-season friendly appearance against Arsenal, having arrived in a summer transfer from Lille.

Yoro required surgery to fix the issue but was pictured putting some work in at the club's Carrington training ground this week, much to Ten Hag's delight. He said: "Yes, he is doing very well."

"It is very pleasing that his rehab is going in the right direction and I expect him soon, but what I mean by soon, is that he is now in the right planning process. He is in the right spot and he will return as soon as possible into the squad and then the team training."
