Jim Furyk fiercely defended the Presidents Cup after criticism questioning its appeal should the International Team fail to secure a win.

During a recent barbecue for the U. S. team before the Procore Championship, reporter Adam Schupak made a comment hinting that a victory by the underdog International Team might be essential for the tournaments future vitality; a comment which prompted an impassioned response from the 2003 US Open champion.

Furyk is clearly taking his leadership role seriously, and his commitment to the tournament was evident as he snapped back at the very notion, stating: "Really? You're American. You've got to understand, I do actually take offense at that. I don't hate you but it's a pretty s----- thing to say."

Despite attempts by Schupak to clarify his stance, explaining to Furyk "it's nothing personal," and that his perspective was from a storytelling angle, "The competition really needs an International Team victory to energize the matches," the tension between the golfer's pride and the journalist's viewpoint was palpable.

Furyk's frustration was palpable as he recounted an incident that left him feeling slighted over a comment about the President Cup's standing. "I'll leave you with this. I was in New York helping out Steve Stricker at Liberty National and a very high-ranking official at the PGA Tour said, 'Good luck, this week,'" the U.S. captain shared.

"Just the way he said it, it was so back-handed. I said, 'You know, I'm not exactly sure I know what that's suppose to mean,'" Furyk continued, expressing his irritation. He then disclosed how the PGA Tour executive suggested that a win for the International Team "would really help the event."

Furyk didn't hold back in his fervent reply. "Did you ever play anything in your entire life as a competitor? Because I'd rather you not even say good luck than say it and not even mean it. Do you know how hard, how many hours, the captains work to try to win these matches? ".

"Do you know how hard and how much effort the players, how hard they take it when they don't play well? I've seen grown men cry in the locker room because they're upset and I've seen how much it means to them when they do play well."

"I know what you're saying, but do you know how offended I am? " Furyk declared. Dismissing any chance of accepting an apology, the 54 year old rebuked sharply. No, you should know better. So it's not like I'm killing you right now, but f--- you. Go f--- yourself. You can quote me on that one."
