Bruno Fernandes sent off for second time in five days as Man Utd crisis hits new low

Bruno Fernandes is sent off after picking up a second yellow card in Manchester United's miserable 3-2 defeat by Porto in the Europa League, just days after another dismissal vs Tottenham

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been sent off for the second time in five days.

Fernandes was dismissed in United's 3-0 thrashing by Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday and has now compounded things with another red card. The United skipper was shown a second yellow card for a high foot in the 82nd minute of their Europa League tie against Porto.

The Portugal international was already on a yellow card when he stuck a boot out in an attempt to get on the end of a cross into the box. But the Porto defender stooped to head clear before going down holding his face.

"Bruno Fernandes is not happy. He has gone in high with his foot and it is dangerous," former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson said on BBC Radio 5 Live. "In Fernandes' defence he is looking at the ball, but when you do that you give the referee no option."
