Arne Slot discusses Liverpool replacing Mohamed Salah as new contract feelings clear
Mohamed Salah has just a year remaining on his contract with Liverpool and Arne Slot has spoken out on the potential task that the Reds face in potentially replacing him in the future
by Daniel Orme · The MirrorArne Slot has refused to be drawn on whether Liverpool will be able to replace Mohamed Salah as his future remains in severe doubt, although the Reds boss hinted he'd like him to stay at he club.
The Egyptian forward has less than a year remaining on his current Reds deal and would be eligible to open talks with foreign clubs in less than two months. Liverpool have been attempting to extend his stay at Anfield, particularly given his impressive form this term.
Salah already has nine goals and as many assists to his name in all competitions this term. But Reds boss Slot has not considered whether the club will be able to replace him should he leave.
Speaking to TNT Sport Brazil after Tuesday’s Champions League win against Bayer Leverkusen, the Dutchman said: “Is Salah irreplaceable? That’s not what I think about at the moment.
“The only thing that I think about is that he’s so important for us [because he] scores important goals, works hard for the team and I’m hoping that he can enjoy that feeling [scoring at Anfield] many, many, many more times – especially if I’m here.
“But even if I’m not here I’m still hoping for him that he can do this many more times. He’s been incredible for Liverpool for the past six, seven, eight years.
“I don’t know exactly how long he’s been here, and he’s been incredible for us this season. I hope he can continue doing this for the rest of the season and maybe longer to come. But that’s something up to him and the club to find the idea about the future.”
Salah dropped a major clue over his future earlier this week. After scoring his side’s second goal in their victory against Brighton, he hinted that his future could potentially lie away from Anfield.

Taking to social media, Salah wrote: "Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less. All teams win matches but there's only 1 champion in the end.
“That's what we want. Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like."
While Salah’s future remains up in the air, Liverpool have been linked with a host of potential replacements should he end up leaving. Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush has been identified as an option.
West Ham star Mohammed Kudus is also a candidate but Liverpool could face serious competition from Arsenal. The Gunners are interested in a £90m move for the Ghanaian as Leandro Trossard is eyed by clubs in Saudi Arabia.
