Dominic Solanke has earned himself an England recall.

England interim boss Lee Carsley is set to name the Tottenham striker in his squad when he announces it at 2pm today.

Mirror Football reported Solanke was hoping to be in after his impressive start to his time at Tottenham following his £65m summer move. Solanke, 27, has scored in each of his last three games and could be seen as back-up and competition for Harry Kane as a more traditional No.9.

Carsley has not been to Saudi Arabia to watch Ivan Toney and therefore it would appear that Solanke now has a chance in the two Nations League games this month with Greece and Finland.

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins was a hero at the Euros but is clearly a different style of striker but is very much in England’s plans.

Solanke has one full cap and spoke recently about wanting to get more international recognition even if he suggested England was not the main motivation behind moving to Spurs from Bournemouth in the summer.

He said: ““Everyone wants to play for their country and it’s definitely something I’m looking to get back into. Was England a part of the idea behind my transfer? Not really. But if you are doing your stuff for a club like Tottenham, it is definitely a lot easier to get into the fold. Tottenham is my main aim. But then hopefully I can get into the England team.”

Kyle Walker is sweating on his place in the squad having missed out last time and that allowed Trent Alexander-Arnold to put his case and was outstanding in both games with Republic of Ireland and Finland. But Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden along with Cole Palmer are all fit again after missing last month’s squad.

England will see Greece at Wembley on October 10 as a key game in winning their Nations League Group as both teams have won their opening two matches.

Carsley knows that if he wins all six Nations League games and tops the Group then he will be red-hot favourite to get the job permanently. Carsley did attend the UEFA debrief on the Euros last month which is a post-tournament tradition among national coaches and perhaps underlines that he is getting his feet under the desk.

FIFA have told the Football Association that the draw for World Cup qualifying will be held on Friday, December 13, in Zurich and if Carsley passes his audition then he could even be installed by then.
