Former Chelsea and Real Madrid star Eden Hazard believes Mohamed Salah is a better player than he was "by far".

Hazard and Salah are two of the greatest footballers to have played in the Premier League in recent years. Hazard spent seven successful seasons at Chelsea, while Salah remains a key player for Liverpool.

However, Hazard had no hesitation in ranking Salah above him when asked who the better player was by SPORTbible. "Mo Salah, by far," was the Belgian's swift reply.

The pair played together during Salah's time at Chelsea, but the Egyptian did not get many opportunities at Stamford Bridge and spent time out on loan in Italy at both Fiorentina and Roma.

After a successful loan spell, he joined Roma permanently in 2016 and was snapped up by Liverpool the following season after he made 34 goal contributions in 41 games for the Serie A side.

Since signing for Liverpool, Salah has scored 216 goals in 357 appearances across all competitions and helped them win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and the League Cup. He also sits fifth on the list of Liverpool's all-time leading goalscorers.

And when asked if he knew just how good Salah would become when they were at Chelsea, Hazard said: "He was good already, you know, but that good? We played when he was playing in Basel.

"So we played Champions League the year before and then we were like, 'Wow'. And then we bought him like, 'Yeah, we have to. We have to buy this guy because this guy is so good'. And then, you know, in football you have ups and downs and then what he did with Liverpool is like, 'Wow'."

Salah is currently in the final year of his contract at Liverpool and has yet to make a decision on his future. The 32-year-old is one of several key players Liverpool could lose for free at the end of the season, with captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold also out of contract in the summer.

"I am very happy these three players are in my team at the moment and there are lot of games to be played in this season, especially in the upcoming weeks, so I am really happy I can select them and let's see what the future brings," Reds boss Arne Slot said when asked about the trio's future earlier this month.
