Liverpool take immediate action on Alisson after injury at Crystal Palace

Alisson limped off towards the end of Liverpool's Premier League win at Crystal Palace, with manager Arne Slot issuing a worrying update on the Brazil international

Liverpool have immediately informed the Brazilian FA that Alisson will NOT be available for their October internationals

Brazil are due to face Chile and Peru in a World Cup qualifying double-header. However, they will go into those games without goalkeeper Alisson, who limped out of Liverpool's victory at Crystal Palace.

The 32-year-old went down during the second half and immediately looked to be in trouble. Sure enough, he was unable to continue, with Vitezslav Jaros called into action for his senior debut for the Reds.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot gave a bleak assessment in the immediate aftermath of the game. It appeared inevitable Alisson would be out of action for some time, and the Brazilian media suggest that absence has been made official.

As first reported by Globo, Brazil have already called up Weverton as Alisson's replacement. The Selecao's medical team contacted Liverpool after the Palace game and were told the Reds man could play no part in the upcoming games.

Weverton, 36, has 10 caps for his country. The last of those came in 2023, when the Palmeiras stopper played the full 90 minutes of a friendly against Morocco.

Brazil made a slow start to their qualification campaign, taking just one point from their four matches in 2023. They were also beaten by Paraguay in September, with their current tally of 10 points from eight games leaving their qualification hopes hanging in the balance.

“The fixtures are difficult but I have also felt how difficult Wolves away is and how difficult Crystal Palace away is," Slot told TNT Sports after the win at Selhurst Park, where Diogo Jota's first-half strike made the difference. "We will probably not be as dominant as we were today when we face Arsenal away but both fixtures are difficult.

"But it’s very good that we won these games and it’s up to us to show ourselves in the big games as well. Unfortunately Ali won’t be with us in those matches I assume, if I saw how he walked off the pitch.”

Slot also praised Jaros, who was forced into action as Caoimhin Kelleher missed out through illness. "Really good," the Dutchman said. "He had a good season and he won the league and cup with the team [Sturm Graz] in Austria [last season].

"He wanted to go [back this season] and have playing time. We said at a club like this we need a good third goalkeeper as well. It was a nice moment for him to make his debut for Liverpool."
