Ruben Amorim sets Man Utd deadline to clarify situation after 'done deal' claim

Ruben Amorim is set to be appointed Manchester United head coach but has remained tight-lipped over negotiations as Sporting Lisbon prepare for their match against Estrela da Amadora

by · The Mirror

Ruben Amorim has revealed he will speak on Manchester United following Sporting Lisbon's match with Estrela da Amadora.

The 39-year-old is set to be named the Red Devils' new head coach following the sacking of Erik ten Hag. Already Dave Brailsford has appeared to confirm a deal is done to land the ex-Benfica midfielder and a £10million fee is said to have been agreed to acquire Amorim's services.

It is not expected that Amorim's arrival at Old Trafford will be imminent however. The Sporting boss may not take on the role until after November's international break, seeing Ruud van Nistelrooy continue in charge of United against Chelsea, PAOK and Leicester City.

That would see Amorim's first match take place at Portman Road against Ipswich Town. For the moment the ex-Portugal international is keen to retain his focus on preparing Sporting for their next match on Friday night.

"I'll leave it until the end of the game. I'll talk about all these issues. Everything will be clearer. Talking now is just another destabilization for the squad. The focus at the moment is Estrela da Amadora."

"It's a negotiation between two clubs," he added. "It's never easy.

"Even with the clauses, it's never easy, they have to talk, and we will have clarification after the game, It will be very clear. So it's one more day after the game tomorrow, we will have a decision made."

Negotiations have included discussions over his 30-day notice period and securing members of his backroom team. It appears United have come to some agreement however.

While Amorim's move to Old Trafford is yet to be officially confirmed, that has not stopped current United players commenting on the prospect. Following United's win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup defender Diogo Dalot was asked about the club's potential new manager.

The 25-year-old offered a cautious but complimentary assessment of his countryman. Dalot believes the squad will be ready whenever the decision is made.

"Obviously he is a good manager," he told Sky Sports. "We do not know if he's coming or not, we see the rumours like everybody, but we will focus on what we have here. Doing our job. What the future brings, we will be ready."
