EA FC 25 Evolutions are overpowered, easy and quick – here's why that's not a good thing

EA Sports updated Evolutions ahead of EA FC 25, and in the first week, they already seem to be sending waves through the Ultimate Team community.

After players called for improvements to Evolutions in EA FC 24, EA Sports listened, and updates have been made. But, early signs are showing that EA FC 25 Evolutions may be a little too overpowered.

EA FC 25 is now available worldwide, with the game receiving its full release last week. Since the game has gone live, players are getting hands-on with all the new features, with big updates being made to Career Mode, Clubs, and Ultimate Team.

Division Rivals rewards and FUT Champions rewards have both been improved while the points systems have been overhauled, a new game mode called Rush has taken Ultimate Team by storm which we praised in our EA FC 25 review, and after making its debut in EA FC 24, tweaks have been made to EA FC 25 Evolutions.

Evolutions allow players to upgrade the rating and stats of players in their club by completing certain gameplay objectives, either for free, coins, or FC Points. The blueprint was there in EA FC 24, and many players were impressed, but there was room for improvement, and players begged EA Sports to make some changes.

From the first week of playing EA FC 25, it's clear changes have been made, but I'm fearing that EA FC 25 Evolutions may have become too overpowered too quickly, and it could prove a problem for the more casual players.

EA FC 25 Evolutions – too much too soon?

We're just over a week into EA FC 24, and at the time of writing, eight different Evolutions have been released. For context, only four had been released at this point during EA FC 24 – half of what we currently have on offer.

One of the main changes made to Evolutions in EA FC 25 was to the requirements, meaning that the available player pool has been increased drastically and that nearly everyone under a certain rating can be Evolved – including already-evolved items.

On paper, it sounds great. But the problem? There are currently examples of where you can evolve the same item three times in a row, and with all of these upgrades, we're getting some ridiculously overpowered items in the first week of the game.

There are multiple examples already of midfielders with mid-80s in every stat, making them known as 'Gullit Gang' midfielders among the Ultimate Team community. This used to be a title saved for the best end-game players, but we've already got multiple players with this title in the early stages of EA FC 25.

And with the addition of Rush, players can earn some of the upgrades more easily and quickly than before. In a game mode where it's common for you to score four goals with one player in each game, Evolutions can be almost fast-forwarded.

Now, I'm not saying that these changes are bad changes. Updates were needed after EA FC 24 – sometimes, you couldn't evolve an evolved player for a second time until months after the first due to the requirements. But, to me, EA has gone too big too early, and within a few months, we could be seeing end-game items due to the ability to Evolve players so often.

EA has to find the correct balance of more Evolutions and small upgrades to try and keep their entire player base happy because if you're a more casual player, you're going to fall behind the power curve very quickly. With smaller upgrades, it would also be good to see EA allow multiple Evolutions at once – but despite this being confirmed as a new addition for EA FC 25, the rule remains one Evolution at a time.
