Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola throws down gauntlet to in-form star Antoine Semenyo

Antoine Semenyo has been one of Bournemouth's standout players so far this season after bagging two goals and an assist in their first three fixtures but boss Andoni Iraola believes there is more to come

Andoni Iraola has told Antoine Semenyo there is still room for improvement despite the winger’s flying start to the season.

Semenyo scored twice and provided an assist in the Cherries opening three league games before Iraola’s side drew a blank against Chelsea last Saturday. Boss Iraola is happy with the Ghana international’s return, and highlighted Semenyo’s role in kick-starting the late comeback at Everton as evidence of the player’s growing influence.

But he also believes there is more to come from the 24-year-old . The Spaniard said: “I'm pleased because he has made the numbers, but more pleased for the attitude he has had.

“The other day against Everton, I think he was the first one to revel in front of this difficult situation. He was the one to start carrying the team. Even before scoring the first goal, you could see he was a little bit angry and sometimes it's good to be like this.

“I think he's winning more, [taking] a little bit more responsibility.” He added: “Past season, I remember that normally he started from the bench or he played 60, 65 minutes and you could see that he was starting to decline, it’s normal a little bit.

“Now he's staying there, he's finishing strong, the games. I hope he can keep this level. Also, he has to improve a lot of things, I tell him every day. He's not a complete package yet.”
