Ruben Amorim WON'T have final say on six Man Utd stars facing imminent Old Trafford exits
Manchester United have six players out of contract at the end of the 2024-25 season, but new head coach Ruben Amorim won't make the final decision on their futures
by Tom Victor · The MirrorRuben Amorim will be consulted about Manchester United's out-of-contract players but won't have the final word on whether they will be offered extensions, it has been claimed.
United have six players whose contract expire in June, meaning they will be free to talk to other clubs in January and potentially sign a pre-contract agreement. Amorim will have the best part of two months to cast his eye over the squad before then, though, with the Portuguese poised to take over at Old Trafford during the November international break.
The club have a chance to trigger automatic one-year extensions for winger Amad and centre-back Harry Maguire, under the terms of their current contracts. Amad is still on the contract he signed when arriving from Atalanta in January 2021, while Maguire signed a six-year deal when he joined from Leicester City in 2019.
United triggered a one-year extension for Victor Lindelof last season, meaning he's among the others out of contract in 2025. The other three are Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton.
According to ESPN, the final decision on all six players will rest with CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox. Amorim will be asked for his opinion, but is not expected to have the power of veto.
Previous United boss Erik ten Hag is understood to have held a transfer veto while at the club. However, Amorim's role is head coach rather than manager, and the reports about the out-of-contract players points to a new direction from the higher-ups.
Eriksen and Lindelof were both linked with summer exits, only to ultimately remain at Old Trafford. It remains to be seen whether the latter is given another chance under the new boss, who briefly played in the same team as him at Benfica.

Amorim's first match as United head coach will come away at Ipswich Town at the end of November. The former Braga boss has a few more games in charge of current club Sporting CP before then, though, starting with a Champions League clash against Manchester City on Tuesday night.
"If the result [vs City] is negative, expectations will drop; if we win they will think that the new Alex Ferguson has arrived," he told reporters on Monday. "What interests me is to win, a good farewell in Alvalade, win in Braga and start a new adventure in Manchester.
"Tomorrow I will be Sporting's coach and only Sporting's. From the 11th I will be Manchester United's. I know they will draw conclusions from the result, but I don't care. I understand the interest, for me it's just another game against a team in the best league."
