Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has been charged by the FA with misconduct following his side's defeat by Fulham on 28 September.

The FA alleges that Marinakis behaved in an "improper" manner around the City Ground tunnel after the final whistle. The Forest owner now has until Monday October 7 to respond. The incident came after Forest lost 1-0, which saw their unbeaten start to the season come to an end with Raul Jimenez converting a second-half penalty for Fulham.

The London outfit were awarded the spot kick after referee Josh Smith was urged to consult the pitchside monitor by VAR - later awarding a penalty. Forest were also angered as VAR ruled against them as they appealed for penalties involving Anthony Elanga and Taiwo Awoniyi.

A statement from the FA read: “Nottingham Forest’s Evangelos Marinakis has been charged with misconduct following their Premier League match against Fulham on Saturday, 28 September. It’s alleged that the behaviour of Evangelos Marinakis around the tunnel area after the final whistle was improper. He has until Monday, 7 October, to respond."

Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo said after the match: "We all want peace and for things to continue well, to not have to speak about the referees. But it was bad, wasn't it?

"Let’s try to avoid [talking about officials] and give the referees peace. I think they are trying to improve, but today was not the best day."

Forest had notable issues with VAR and officials last term, which were particularly evident during a 2-0 reverse at Everton. They had several penalty shouts turned down - which came after they aired issues with the VAR being a Luton fan, whom they were then battling relegation.

Nottingham Forest were angered by a penalty awarded to Fulham

The club said they had "warned" the Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOL) that "the VAR is a Luton fan but they didn't change him".

Forest currently sit tenth in what in their third successive season in the top flight having won two and drawn three of their six games thus far. Nuno will take his team to high-flying Chelsea on Sunday in what will be the final game before the international break.
