Aston Villa injury crisis in full ahead of Man United with concerns over seven players

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester United will take on an Aston Villa side hit with several injury concerns when they meet in the Premier League this weekend.

United will travel to Villa Park on Sunday in their final match before the October international break. Before then, Erik ten Hag's side will be in Europa League action on Thursday night as they visit Porto.

Ten Hag has been forced to deal with injuries ever since the start of the season. Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Mason Mount are all currently sidelined with injuries heading into the clash against Porto, and Villa are dealing with fitness concerns of their own.

Wednesday night saw Villa claim a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League, with Jhon Duran scoring the winner late in the second half. However, the game also saw Villa's injury list increase with the addition of Jacob Ramsey.

The midfielder suffered a potential muscle injury during the second half of Villa's win over Bayern and limped off as he was substituted. The severity of the injury has not been confirmed by Villa, but Ramsey is now a major doubt to face United on Sunday for Unai Emery's team.

Ramsey joins a lengthy injury list for Villa that includes club captain John McGinn. The Scotland international is sidelined with a hamstring injury and is not expected to return for the weekend.

There are also concerns about Amadou Onana's fitness after the midfielder was substituted during the win at Villa Park. The summer signing from Everton appeared to be in some discomfort as he walked off the pitch, and it remains to be seen if he will be available to face United.

Leon Bailey replaced the injury Ramsey in the first half, but was substituted after playing just 33 minutes of the contest. It remains to be seen if the change was for tactical reasons or if Bailey had suffered an injury concern of his own.

Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings are also sidelined with long-term knee injuries but are moving closer to returns. Matty Cash has spent several weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury but returned to the matchday squad on Tuesday night where he was an unused substitute.
