Manchester United starting line-up vs Porto revealed as Hojlund in and Mainoo call made

by · Manchester Evening News

Erik ten Hag has named his starting line-up as Manchester United go in search of their first Europa League win of the season.

United were on course to record all three points in their European opener against FC Twente last week but threw their lead away as Sam Lammers capitalised on Christian Eriksen's mistake. Eriksen had put United 1-0 up in the first half with a beautiful strike.

The new Europa League format means it's difficult to find any sort of jeopardy in the early matchdays. United could finish as low as 24th in the 36-team league table and still go on to win the competition.

Qualification for the next round will still be expected if United don't win this evening, and so Erik ten Hag's future will instead be the topic of discussion. The Dutchman could well be on the verge of the sack, with MEN Sport revealing that United would stick by him for the Porto and Villa games after reports he could be sacked following the horrendous 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.

United have only won three games so far this season: they scraped past Fulham with a late Joshua Zirkzee goal, beat a poor Southampton side who already look destined for relegation and hammered League One Barnsley.

Ten Hag really needs a positive result tonight and against Aston Villa on Sunday. Here's the starting XI he's chosen to step out at the Estádio do Dragão this evening:

GK: Onana

DF: Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot

MF: Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes

FW: Amad, Hojlund, Rashford
