Sir Dave Brailsford delivers two-word Ruben Amorim update in Manchester United bombshell
by Isaac Johnson · Manchester Evening NewsSocial media users believe Sir Dave Brailsford has confirmed that a deal to bring Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim to Manchester United has been sealed.
The Manchester Evening News revealed on Wednesnday that a compensation package with Sporting has been agreed, and that a separate deal is being thrashed out to bring assistants Carlos Fernandes and Adelio Candido to Old Trafford.
Ruud van Nistelrooy meanwhile took charge of his first game as interim boss, overseeing a 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the last-16 of the League Cup. Ineos sporting chief Brailsford was in attendance for the match and posed for selfies with fans on his way into the stadium.

One supporter recorded this pre-match gesture and posted the footage onto social media. In the clip, Brailsford can be heard saying “yeah, done”. Those standing by claimed this utterance was in relation to Amorim’s scheduled arrival.
It is uncertain whether Amorim will be in situ at United in time for Sunday’s home clash with Chelsea. Former United striker Van Nistelrooy - who was taking charge of only his 51st senior match as a coach on Wednesday - will stay as interim until Amorim is appointed.
Dropping a hint about Amorim's scheduled arrival after full-time against Leicester, Van Nistelrooy said: "For now the focus is on Chelsea on Sunday and I do not really look any further."
Unconfirmed reports in Portugal suggest Sporting wish to delay Amorim’s exit until the November international break, which starts the week commencing November 11. After Chelsea, United face PAOK in the Europa League and Leicester in the Premier League at home before the break.
Asked after full-time whether he wishes to stay at United as an assistant coach under Amorim, Van Nistelrooy told Sky Sports: “I’m here to help and serve and give my everything for the club in any capacity with so many people here around me that want the best for the club and that will never change.”
Van Nistelrooy - whose previous 50 matches as a senior manager came at PSV Eindhoven - was brought back to Old Trafford as an assistant coach by Erik ten Hag, who was sacked on Monday, in the summer.
