Rashford, Mainoo, Maguire - Man United injury news and return dates ahead of Aston Villa

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester United head into this weekend's clash with Aston Villa thankful that Marcus Rashford is not injured despite concerns at half-time against Porto in the Europa League.

Rashford was one of United's better performers against the Portuguese giants in the first half, scoring after seven minutes to give the Reds the lead. However, he was substituted at the break leading some to worry that the Englishman could be injured.

However, Erik ten Hag confirmed in his post-match press conference that the substitution was merely tactical. "[Alejandro] Garnacho was my best player on Sunday by far," the manager explained.

"Over the left side we didn't defend well and Marcus also plays a part in this. But it was about Garnacho and nothing against Rashy."

With that cleared up, MEN Sport has taken a look at the other injury news from the United squad as attention turns to Unai Emery's side on Sunday.

Kobbie Mainoo

Injury: Hamstring

What we know: Mainoo was considered a doubt after picking up a suspected hamstring injury against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. He travelled to Porto this week but was not fit enough to make the squad for the game. He did train with the team on Wednesday though so hopes will remain high that the injury is not serious.

Potential return date: October 6 vs Aston Villa

Harry Maguire

Injury: Knock

What we know: Maguire suffered a knock against Spurs which ruled him out of contention to start against Porto. However, he managed to come off the bench on Thursday night to score and showed no signs of ill effects from his important cameo.

Alejandro Garnacho

Injury: Knock

What we know: Garnacho was another player who was not fit enough to start against Porto. He was called upon at half-time to replace the aforementioned Rashford and performed well.

Mason Mount

Injury: Knock and head injury

What we know: Mount did not take part in training for United in the build-up to the Porto game and was not featured in the squad that flew out to Portugal. His injuries are not suspected to be serious and he is expected to be back soon.

Potential return date: October 6 vs Aston Villa

Luke Shaw

Injury: Calf

What we know: There had been speculation that Shaw could return before the international break but Ten Hag has ruled out that possibility. It is thought to be touch and go whether the England international could feature on October 19 against Brentford.

Potential return date: October 24 vs Fenerbahce

Tyrell Malacia

Injury: Knee

What we know: Malacia has been making good progress and is back on the grass at last. He was lumped into Ten Hag's update regarding left-backs and it is thought he is behind Shaw in his progress so could be another month away from returning.

Potential return date: November 3 vs Chelsea

Leny Yoro

Injury: Ankle

What we know: Yoro is furthest away from returning after suffering his frustrating injury during pre-season against Arsenal. The Frenchman has undergone surgery and is racing to get back before the year ends.

Potential return date: December 1 vs Everton
