'You'll get me in trouble' - Ederson shares daring verdict on Man City manager Pep Guardiola

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has detailed the behind-the-scenes character of Pep Guardiola - explaining how he can be nice, angry and even annoying at times!

The 31-year-old, currently on international duty, was asked whether Guardiola was any of those three adjectives by a youngster while participating in an event for Children's Day in Brazil, to which he joked: "You're going to get me in trouble! He's all three."

Ederson has prompted a variety of animated reactions from his manager for match-winning saves, incredible long passes and close-shaves during take-ons against strikers. Together, the pair have won 18 trophies in tandem at the Etihad Stadium - including six Premier League titles and a Champions League.

Further detailing the persona of a much-revered coach who has won so much, Ederson went on: "He's a nice guy, he's sometimes annoying, in the sense of [being] demanding, because he has to [be] demanding to a professional [player], and he's also angry when he has to be angry.

"So he has a mixture of all three. But he's a nice guy off the pitch, and he's a very, very demanding guy on it. And he's also a guy who gets angry like any other person - like any other coach - when things don't go well and when the team doesn't play well.

"Of course, we know that we're not going to be able to play 70 games at a brilliant level. In one game or another, there's going to be a dip, of course."

Many believe City manager Guardiola has changed the fabric of the domestic game, with players from grassroots all the way up to the Premier League now encouraged to place more onus on possession, and keeping the ball on the floor at all costs.

Ederson admits he feels "honoured" to have been involved in such a huge revolution at City. "I've been able to play a big part in the project," he added to ESPN Brasil.

"You take everything Pep Guardiola has built up with the group, with the squad and everything he's been able to reformulate practically. You see every Premier League game today, how the teams try to play more football, have more possession, it's completely different from when he arrived."

The goalkeeper, 31, continued: "So to be able to be part of this project and achieve everything I've achieved, I feel very honoured, it really is a childhood dream."
