Vincent Kompany's net worth, University degree and journey from Burnley to Bayern Munich

Vincent Kompany needs little introduction to Manchester City fans - a modern-day Premier League great who won four top-flight titles during his 11-year stint at the Etihad Stadium.

He played a huge role in transforming the club both on and off the pitch, a brilliant leader and a giant of a man. The Belgian international made 360 appearances for City, scoring 20 goals, winning two FA Cups, four League Cups and two community shields. He joined the club from Hamburg in 2008 having come through the ranks at Anderlecht, re-joining the Belgian outfit in 2019 after calling time on his City career.

He spent one final year at Belgian club Anderlecht before retiring and taking over the reins of the club he started his professional football journey with. Signing a four-year deal with RSCA, Kompany steered the club to a fourth-place finish and Europa Conference League qualification, but they were knocked out of the competition in the qualifying rounds by Vitesse.

Life as a manager

He'd guide the Purple and White to a third placed finish the year after, before taking over Championship club Burnley in 2022. The Clarets romped to the Championship title in Kompany's first year in charge, praised for their attacking, high octane football in the second tier.

There had been suggestions Kompany would become Pep Guardiola's successor at City given the success in his first season at Turf Moor, but the Clarets return to the Premier League did not go as planned. Burnley were relegated from the top flight last season, with Kompany coming under fire for his style of play in the top flight, insisting that his side played out from the back, to no avail.

During his second season in charge of the Clarets, film crews captured the behind 'Mission to Burnley,' a documentary going behind the scenes at the club. It charted the club's return to the Premier League, with Kompany at the heart of the programme.

At the end of the 2023-24 campaign, the Belgian boss was approached by Bayern Munich to take over, in a surprise move which shocked the club and that's where we find ourselves today. Kompany's took over the Bundesliga giants and so far, they're unbeaten in the German top flight, starting the season in blistering form, with 28 goals scored already in all competitions.

Kompany will return to England this evening in the Champions League with Bayern set to take on Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Personal life

The Belgian boss also has an interesting life away from football. Kompany grew up in Brussels in a French speaking home, learning Dutch at school, but also speaks German and English, while also speaking some Spanish and Italian. He also met his wife, lifelong Manchester City fan Carla Higgs, during his time at the Etihad. The pair married in 2011 and have a daughter and two sons together.

Net worth

The former centre-half has a reported net worth of £38million from his playing days but has a number of hobbies and interests which keep him occupied outside of football. During his time at City, he graduated with a Master of Business Administration in 2018 and also has a keen interest in politics.
