Manchester United hit with double injury worry vs Aston Villa

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire picked up an injury against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Maguire started at Villa Park alongside Jonny Evans but looked to hurt his calf at the end of the first and Matthijs de Ligt was instructed to prepare to come on.

The game was goalless at half-time and Erik ten Hag will give an update on Maguire after the final whistle.

Maguire did not come out for the second half, with De Ligt coming on. Victor Lindelof was also introduced at the interval and he was substituted on for Noussair Mazraoui.

Mazraoui did not look visibly injured at the end of the first half and, just like with Maguire, Ten Hag will clarify why he was taken off in his post-match press conference.

Although Aston Villa were the bookmakers' favourites heading into Sunday's clash, they were poor in the opening 45 minutes and United limited their opportunities to score.
