Van Nistelrooy, Tuchel, Potter - Man Utd next manager odds as Erik ten Hag on brink of sack

by · Manchester Evening News

Ruud van Nistelrooy is the favourite to replace Erik ten Hag as Manchester United manager after their Europa League collapse away at FC Porto.

Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Holjund were on the scoresheet after firing the visitors two to the good inside 20 minutes. However, Vitor Bruno's side fought back with goals from Pepe before the 20-year-old Spaniard got his first of the night with a powerful header to restore parity.

Five minutes into the second-half, the comeback was complete when the former Atletico Madrid striker thumped home from close-range. The defeat heaps pressure on the Dutchman, following Sunday's 3-0 home defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.

The MEN reported on Monday that Ten Hag faced a defining week in the Old Trafford hot seat after his 10-man United side slumped to defeat in the Premier League. The tactician arrived at Carrington at 7:30am after the loss as news broke that United were set to stick with him.

But the draw in Porto extends the winless start to their Europa League campaign following the 1-1 draw with FC Twente in their curtain-raiser, last Thursday.

United travel to Villa Park on Sunday in the final Premier League encounter before the international break. As it stands, Ten Hag's side are languishing in 13th ahead of the tough test in the Midlands with Unai Emery's side buoyant from their win over Bayern Munich.
