Thomas Tuchel will reportedly take over the England national team on January 1 after agreeing a deal to become the new manager.

The Times reported negotiations between the two parties progressed well this week and the German coach could be unveiled before the end of the week. Tuchel was being considered by Manchester United as a potential successor to Erik ten Hag following a poor start to the season.

The Manchester Evening News reported that Ineos were admirers of Tuchel and that he would be among the top choices to replace Ten Hag if the United boss was sacked. United have got off to their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign.

Last week, Ineos' executives attended a board meeting where many topics were discussed, including Ten Hag's future. Since then, silence from the club has led supporters to believe he will remain in charge, at least for now.

But United will now have to look elsewhere if they are to replace Ten Hag in the near future. It's said FA chief executive Mark Bullingham and technical director John McDermott had made contact with the former Chelsea boss Tuchel last month.

Pep Guardiola had also reportedly been sounded out by England amid uncertainty over his future at Manchester City. However, Tuchel is set to take over from interim manager Lee Carsley.

According to Sky Germany, Tuchel has signed an 18-month contract which will start on January 1. Carsley will remain in charge for England's final two Nations League games against Greece and Ireland next month.
