Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos told they 'should be arrested' after Man United decision

by · Manchester Evening News

Former Premier League striker Paolo Di Canio has insisted that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos should all be 'arrested' after allowing Manchester United to sell Scott McTominay this summer.

Academy graduate McTominay was sold to Napoli in the most recent transfer window as the Reds looked to drum up funds to sign Manuel Ugarte from PSG. The Serie A table-toppers splashed £21m on the Scottish central midfielder with £4.2m potentially owed in add-ons.

Ahead of McTominay's impending departure, Erik ten Hag admitted that he was not actively trying to pursue a sale for the 27-year-old. "It is a little bit mixed," the Dutchman admitted.

"I am very happy for him, but it is mixed because I wouldn’t prefer to lose him. He is Manchester United in everything, he was so important for Manchester United.

"He was here for over 22 years but unfortunately it is the (Financial Fair Play) rules. Homegrown players bring more value and that is not the right thing to do but for everyone, for all parts, it is a good deal. Scott is happy with it, and Napoli and us."

McTominay has hit the ground running in Italy and bagged his first goal for the Naples club prior to the international break in the 3-1 victory over Como.

McTominay has left such a good impression that former West Ham man Di Canio is shocked that United agreed to sell him. "I would go to Manchester United to arrest all the directors," he said.

"How can you give away McTominay?" The midfielder's replacement at Old Trafford Ugarte has not hit the ground running as of yet with the Reds slipping to their worst start to a Premier League campaign ever.
