Viktor Gyokeres responds to Manchester United transfer question after Ruben Amorim announcement
by Matthew Abbott · Manchester Evening NewsViktor Gyokeres has acknowledged it is not easy to discuss the future at this stage amid suggestions that Manchester United will reunite the Sporting striker with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
Gyokeres, 26, is the Portuguese club's outstanding player, scoring 63 goals in 66 games since arriving in Lisbon from Coventry City. Four came on Friday night in Sporting's first match since United announced Amorim as their head coach.
A host of Premier League clubs are said to have an interest in signing the centre-forward, and the Reds are now inevitably in that conversation because of who their incoming boss is. Jumping to conclusions is not exclusive to the English media either, with the Portuguese press also picking up on the potential for Gyokeres to follow his coach to Manchester.

In the aftermath of Sporting's 5-1 win over Estrela Amadora, the Sweden international was asked about possibly meeting Amorim again. "I don't know," Gyokeres told the Portuguese broadcaster Sport TV. "I'm here, and I really like being here. It's not something I think about. I'm enjoying it here."
Questions also came about Amorim and how different the week was because of the significant speculation about the Sporting coach. "Of course, it's not a normal situation," Gyokeres said, "but we won 5-1, and the team reacted very well. We are professionals, and we have to continue like this.
"We are sad to see [Amorim] leave; he is a great professional; he was fantastic for us, but we have to adapt. It's difficult to talk about the future, but we will definitely do the same job and continue to give our best. We wish him the best. It's very good for him."
Gyokeres has scored 20 times in 16 games this season, taking his tally since signing for Sporting to 63 goals in 66 matches. The striker is only behind Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski and Estonia international Alex Tamm in this season's European Golden Boot standings.
