Manchester United to make decisions on six players' contracts

Manchester United have not made any firm decisions on contract renewals for four players whose deals expire in the summer.

Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen have all entered the final year of their contracts and do not have the option of an additional year.

Lindelof is expected to be let go if he remains beyond the winter transfer window after United attempted to sell him in the summer. The 30-year-old was injured for the majority of pre-season, which ensured he stayed at the club.

Eriksen has started in six of the past seven games but United intend to freshen up their central midfield next summer and the Dane turns 33 in February.

Heaton, 38, and Evans, 36, signed one-year renewals in the summer and their family bases are in the north-west, which affords all parties some flexibility should they renegotiate.

The identity of the United manager will also have a bearing. Heaton and Evans agreed one-year deals after United decided to keep Erik ten Hag, whose future is up in the air again as United have won only three of their opening 11 games this term.

Evans, Lindelof and Eriksen could all feasibly start for United against Brentford when their Premier League campaign resumes at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Eriksen has been one of United's more effective performers, scoring three goals and assisting another three. Evans was the man of the match in the goalless draw with Aston Villa, where Lindelof came on for his first appearance of the campaign.

Harry Maguire and Amad have also entered the final year of their deals but United have one-year extension options with each player's contract. United plan to negotiate fresh terms for the 22-year-old Amad, who has become a more integral squad member this calendar year.

Maguire, 31, is currently sidelined for a few weeks after he came off at half-time against Villa. Maguire left Villa Park wearing a protective boot.

United extended Lindelof's contract by a year in December as they planned to obtain a fee for the Swede in the summer. However, Lindelof has missed 22 games this calendar year due to groin, hamstring and toe injuries.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka's deal was also lengthened by a year amid United's intention to sell the right back. Wan-Bissaka was sold to West Ham United for £15million in August.

Maguire nodded in a 91st-minute equaliser against Porto earlier this month to prevent a second successive defeat for United.
