Utah has not been kind to former featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who fell to Mario Bautista via split decision at UFC 307.

Aldo put up a hell of a fight against Bautista, who was forced to slow down the pace with clinching against the cage in order to keep the 38 year old legend from taking over the bout with his slick striking. “Scarface” had his best round in the second where he was able to keep distance, but in the end it was control that the judges favored, handing Bautista the first and third on two of three judges scorecards.

Take a look at the full UFC 307 scorecards for Jose Aldo vs. Mario Bautista below:

Judges Derek Clearly and Mike Bell had it 29-28 for Bautista while Chris Lee had it the opposite way, 29-28 for Aldo. The defeat drops Aldo to 1-2 over his last three, with his other loss being a tough decision loss to Merab Dvalishvili in the UFC’s 2022 trip to Salt Lake City.

Sandwiched between those losses was an impressive decision win over Jonathan Martinez in Rio de Janiero that proved Jose still had gas left in the tank of his career. This loss though leaves the Brazilian in a tough spot. The UFC hasn’t seemed all too eager to put him in legacy matches against other aging fighters, instead choosing to pit him against up and coming opponents who could use the rub of a name like Aldo on their resume.
