India are currently taking on Bangladesh in the 1st Test match of the two-match series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. While the Men in Blue have been on top in the first two days so far, Bangladesh's veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan hasn't had a memorable match. Despite that, Shakib still managed to break a record. The southpaw did not pick up a wicket nor score a run on Day 3 of the series opener but as soon as he stepped on the field, he broke a record.

Shakib became the oldest to play Test cricket for Bangladesh. Shakib is 37 years and 181 days old as he plies his trade for the Bangla Tigers on Day 3 of the ongoing Test. With this he broke the previous record of the oldest Bangladesh Test cricketer who last stepped on to the field in Bangladesh colours in a Test match aged 37 years and 180 days. The previous record-holder happened to be none other than the left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique who was 37 years and 180 days when he last played a Test match against South Africa in 2008.

Even though Shakib may have broken a record, it hasn't been a memorable match for him as far as his or his team's performance is concerned. Shakib conceded 50 runs in his 8 overs in the first innings and has gone for 44 off his 8 overs in the second so far.  He did top-score with 32 in Bangladesh's 149 in the first innings but the situation of the match demanded a lot more from him, given the situation the team found themselves in.
