Tennessee vs. Oklahoma odds, prediction, spread: 2024 college football Week 4 picks from expert on 15-6 roll

SportsLine expert Emory Hunt revealed his CFB picks for the Oklahoma Sooners vs. Tennessee Vols on Saturday

· CBS Sports

The No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers (3-0) will play their first true road game of the season when they face the No. 15 Oklahoma Sooners (3-0) in an SEC opener on Saturday evening. Tennessee beat then-No. 24 NC State by 41 points in Charlotte two weeks ago before cruising to a 71-0 win over Kent State last week. Oklahoma is wrapping up a four-game homestand that began with wins over Temple, Houston and Tulane. This is the first meeting between Tennessee and Oklahoma since Baker Mayfield led the Sooners to a 31-24 win in Knoxville in 2015. Tennessee coach Josh Heupel led Oklahoma to the national title as a quarterback in 2020 and also was on staff as an assistant coach from 2006-14.

Kickoff from Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Tennessee is a 7-point favorite in the latest Oklahoma vs. Tennessee odds from SportsLine consensus, despite Oklahoma opening as a 4.5-point favorite in the look-ahead line. The over/under for total points scored is 57, which is down 4.5 points from the opener (61.5). Why Oklahoma can cover

Oklahoma was a 4.5-point favorite in the look-ahead line for this game two weeks ago, and the Sooners have covered the spread in two of their first three games. They have not been a touchdown home underdog since 1998. This is an ideal scheduling spot for the Sooners, as they are playing at home for the fourth consecutive game, while Tennessee is playing away from home for the second time in the last three weeks.

Sooners quarterback Jackson Arnold has thrown for 484 yards and seven touchdowns. He also leads the team in rushing with 159 yards and two touchdowns, and he is backed up by an Oklahoma defense that is holding opponents to less than 265 yards per game. The Sooners have also forced a nation-leading 10 turnovers and are riding a 10-game home winning streak. See who to back at SportsLine

Why Tennessee can cover

Tennessee is off to a perfect start this season, easily covering the spread in all three of its blowout wins. The Vols lead the nation in scoring at 61.0 points per game, with running back Dylan Sampson racking up nine touchdowns while averaging 119 rushing yards per game. Redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava has been able to rest in the second half of all three games, but he has still thrown for 698 yards and six touchdowns.

The Vols have arguably been just as impressive defensively, holding opponents to just 4.3 points and 160.7 yards per game. They are facing an Oklahoma offensive line that has already allowed 11 sacks and has not opened up many running lanes. The Sooners are dealing with significantly more injury issues than a relatively healthy Tennessee team as well. See who to back at SportsLine.
