College football odds, picks, predictions for Week 5, 2024: Proven model backs Notre Dame in best bets

SportsLine's advanced computer model has revealed its 2024 Week 5 college football picks

· CBS Sports

A pair of top-ranked teams will contest their first conference games of the 2024 college football season on Saturday afternoon. At noon ET, No. 6 Ole Miss will kick off its SEC schedule as 17.5-point favorites, per the latest Week 5 college football odds, against Kentucky. Then at 4:15 p.m. ET, No. 1 Texas will host Mississippi State, with the Longhorns favored by 38.5 points. The QB situation is still unclear in Austin, but that isn't stopping this game from having the largest of the Week 5 college football spreads.

A large spread is not what you'll see in Georgia vs. Alabama (+2), as the Tide are the only team to defeat the Bulldogs over their last 51 games, and Bama did it twice. However, the Alabama sideline looks a bit different this year, so is Kalen DeBoer's fourth-ranked team still one to back in Week 5 college football bets against the No. 2-ranked Dawgs? Before locking in any Week 5 college football picks on those games or others, be sure to see the latest college football predictions from SportsLine's proven model.

The model simulates every FBS college football game 10,000 times. Since its inception, it has generated a profit of well over $2,000 for $100 players on its top-rated college football picks against the spread. It is also coming off a profitable 13-9 season on top-rated spread picks. Anyone who has followed it has seen strong returns.

Now, it has turned its attention to the latest college football odds and Week 5 college football betting lines on the spreadmoney line and over/underHead here to see every pick.

Top college football predictions for Week 5

One of the college football picks the model is high on during Week 5: No. 16 Notre Dame (-6) picks up a double-digit win over No. 15 Louisville in a 3:30 p.m. ET matchup on Saturday. The Fighting Irish have won 13 of their last 15 games against ACC opponents, and they have played their best football against the top two teams they have faced this season. They opened the campaign with a 23-13 win at then-No. 20 Texas A&M before crushing Purdue in a 66-7 road win.

Senior quarterback Riley Leonard is among the most experienced signal callers in the country, passing for 587 yards while rushing for 322 yards through his first four games of the season. He has accounted for seven total touchdowns, and he is facing a Louisville team that is playing on the road for the first time in 2024. The Cardinals are 6-13 in their last 19 road games, so the model has Notre Dame covering the spread in nearly 60% of simulations. See the rest of its Week 5 college football picks here.

Another prediction: No. 21 Oklahoma (-2) notches a comfortable road win at Auburn in a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday. OU's SEC tenure didn't get off to a great start against No. 6 Tennessee, but the Tigers won't be confused with the Vols any time soon. Auburn has already suffered home losses to Cal and Arkansas this season, and it's lost its last four games overall to Power 4 programs. The Tiger benched QB Payton Thorne after he threw four INTs in the loss to Cal, only for his replacement in Hank Brown to then get benched after tossing three picks in the loss to Arkansas.

While OU has some QB concerns of its own, there aren't many issues on the defensive side for the Sooners. They held Tennessee to 25 points after the Vols had averaged 63.7 points over their first three games, and OU is fourth in the nation with 14 sacks. That defense is projected to terrorize the Tigers into multiple turnovers, with the Sooners then racking up over 150 yards on the ground. This will limit Auburn's opportunities to put points on the board, as the model has Oklahoma (-2) winning by double-digits and covering nearly 70% of the time. See picks for every other game in Week 5 here.
