Duncan Scott made an almighty splash as he stunned Olympic superstar Leon Marchand to claim gold in the men’s 200m freestyle on the final day of the short course World Cup event in Singapore at the weekend.

The Stirling University swimmer left the audience dumbfounded as he raced to victory in a time of 1:39.83, more than a second clear of the Frenchman. China’s Pan Zhanle was third.

Marchand lit up this summers Olympics – finishing with the most gold medals among individuals participants, with four, and was tied for the second-most total medals, with five (four gold, one bronze), breaking four Olympic records.

Scott had finished second behind Marchand in the 200m medley on Friday. But it was the 27-year-old who was able to come out on top in his favoured freestyle discipline.

Scott also secured silver in the 200m Individual Medley, second behind only Marchand who set a new World Record in the event.
