Threave Rovers put their Scottish Cup disappointment behind them by claiming another scalp.

A week after suffering heartbreak at the hands of Stranraer, they travelled to Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in the West of Scotland Cup.

And despite their opponents playing two leagues above them, Threave ran out 2-1 winners. Gaffer Danny Dunglinson (above) said: “The worry was after last Friday, the big occasion and big crowd, there’d be a drop off and they wouldn’t raise their game as much as the week before but they did that.

“We had four or five changes and the boys that came in did really well, it was pleasing to see the squad do well over the two games. It wasn’t just 11 players, it was a whole squad effort.

“We weren’t at our best but we managed to grind out a result, which was pleasing, as we need to find more than one way of winning a game and Saturday was totally different.

Threave took the lead through Lewis Downie with Aiden Kerr doubling the advantage minutes later as the Castle Douglas side enjoyed a two goal advantage at the break.

Jordan Pirrie volleyed the hosts back into the game as the hour mark approached.

After their cup exploits, the focus for Threave now turns back to the league and winning promotion to the West of Scotland’s second division.

Dalry Thistle are the visitors to Meadow Park this weekend, with Dunglinson hoping to bring in a loan player and another new recruit to beef up numbers.

He explained: “Having two weeks off the league puts us a few games behind. We are starting to pick up injuries. Ross Irving is out for six to eight weeks with a fractured foot, Sam Henderson was unwell on Saturday and Ross Thomson and Callum Summerbee got injured against Stranraer.”

Some good news for Threave is that Ross Thomson, Aiden Kerr, Liam Park and Dylan Cairnie have all signed new contracts – as has the management team, with all committing their future to the club until 2026.
