Steven Gerrard insists he doesn't deserve the boot at Al-Ettifaq as pressure continues to build on the former Rangers boss.

The Liverpool hero is suffering in his current role with his team losing out once again on the road at league leaders Al Hilal. The Saudi Pro League table toppers bagged a 3-1 win to make it nine wins and a draw from ten games so far while for Gerrard, the table makes grim reading with his troops languishing in 11th spot - just four points above the relegation zone after a fifth league defeat in ten games.

Speaking post-match the former England star - as he so often did during his football career- showed fight and determination when facing the media by insisting that he 'hasn't reached the point of dismissal yet' and that he vowed to try and rectify the mistakes his side are currently making. Speaking to the media post-match, he said: "I don't like to use excuses after a defeat, but we face a lot of pressure in the matches, and we have to take responsibility, and continue to correct the mistake.

He added: “I am aware of the team’s poor past results, and I do not think that I have reached the stage of dismissal from the team’s management."
