Lyndon Dykes has told the Tartan Army that a Scotland victory IS coming - despite a wretched run of results.

Gaffer Steve Clarke pleaded with supporters to keep believing after Saturday night’s gut-wrenching 2-1 Nations League defeat to Croatia in Zagreb. The Scots have now lost their opening three games in the top tier by a single-goal margin to Poland, Portugal and the Croats. And the performances have merited more than the zero points they’ve picked up.

But Dykes has asked for a bit of patience and trust that Clarke’s players will get it right. They face another huge challenge against the Portuguese - who are top of the section - at Hampden on Tuesday night.

Scotland have won just once in 15 games but the Birmingham City striker is adamant they’ll soon reverse that trend. When asked about the strength of the squad’s confidence in turning it around, Dykes said: “Yeah, we believe so much.

“We had such a good run for a long time and this was never going to be easy for us. This is when we have to show the character of the boys in there. We have a lot of new faces but we’ve got massive characters so I’m sure we’ll turn it around.

“I believe in trusting my team-mates and the coaching staff. And it’s only a matter of time before we get it right.

“We’ve got another game on Tuesday which obviously won’t be easy again. But we’ve done it before and we can do it again.”
