Fabio Silva opens Las Palmas account with tidy finish as former Rangers misfit atones for shocking miss
The forward joined the La Liga side on a season-long loan deal during the summer transfer window
by Anthony Evans, https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/authors/anthony-evans/ · Daily RecordFabio Silva has netted his first goal since leaving Rangers by getting on the scoresheet for new club Las Palmas.
The Portuguese forward spent the second half of last season at Ibrox on loan from Wolves, scoring six times in 25 matches in all competitions. And the 22-year-old - who cost Wolves £35million when they signed him from Porto in 2020 - made up for a terrible miss earlier in the game to nab his first Las Palmas goal against Villarreal on Monday night.
With 10 minutes on the clock, Silva somehow fluffed his lines by putting the ball wide from just outside the six-yard-box, but atoned for his error with a sublime finish two minutes into the second half. The Portugal U21 international was picked out by a fine pass from former Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj to dink Villareal stopper to get his team back on level terms after ex Arsenal flop Nicolas Pepe had put the hosts in front.
Silva is not the only familiar name to have joined the La Liga side this summer, having recently teamed up with former Aberdeen star Scott McKenna and fellow Scotland international forward Oli McBurnie. However, Luis Carrion's side have endured a tough start to the season having failed to win in each of their first seven matches and will have work to do if they hope to avoid relegation back to Spain's second tier.
