Four charged over 'violence and disorder' after Hibs v Motherwell clash

Police were scrambled to the mass disturbance at St Andrew Square on Sunday.

Four men have been charged over "violence and disorder" after football fans clashed on the streets in Edinburgh.

Police were scrambled to St Andrew Square after receiving reports of a mass disturbance following the Hibs v Motherwell match on Sunday, October 5. Eyewitnesses alleged to have seen glass bottles being thrown between both groups after the Scottish Premiership game between the two clubs.

Images on social media show rows of cop cars parked up at the scene with blue lights on as officers dealt with the carnage. It is currently unknown if there were any injuries.

Detectives have confirmed that four men, aged 16, 17, 18 and 22, have been charged in connection. All four have since been released and are due to appear in court at a later date.

Two other people who were also arrested have been released without charge.

A statement from Police Scotland reads: "Four males, aged 16, 17, 18 and 22, have been charged in connection with incidents of violence and disorder in Edinburgh. Officers attended the St Andrew Square area of the city following the Hibs v Motherwell match on Saturday, 5 October, 2024.

"Two other people who were also arrested have been released without charge. All four males have been released on an undertaking and are due to appear in court at a later date."
