NHS Scotland is currently looking for people to relocate to Orkney.

NHS Orkney is the smallest health board in the country, with the jobs being the perfect opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of city living. Orkney is famous for its incredible scenery, fascinating heritage, and world-class food and drink.

Among the jobs that are currently being advertised is a Advanced Nurse Practitioner, based on the tiny island of Flotta. The post has a starting salary of between £50,357 and £58,334 and is on a fixed-term contract for 12 months.

The successful applicant, who will work 37 hour per week, will be responsible for assessing and implementing the healthcare needs of the island's population of around 80 people. They will be the lead practitioner providing emergency healthcare on the island.

Those applying for the position must be qualified and have experience in a similar role. You must also possess up-to-date clinical knowledge and skills, and be interested in working in a remote setting.

Elsewhere, NHS Orkney is also hiring two Community Nurses on the West Mainland and Stronsay. Both positions pay £33,479 and £41,322, with the former being permanent and the latter being on a 12-month contract.

The West Mainland Community Nurse will mainly be based on Orkney's Mainland, and so would suit those who do not want to be based too remotely. Working with the Community Nursing Team on the Mainland, they will be responsible for assessing and delivering care to individuals and families.

The West Mainland is renowned for its dramatic coastline and various farms and lochs. It is also famous for its archaeology and heritage, being home to the ancient Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site.

Meanwhile, the Stronsay Community Nurse will work on a rotational basis with an on-call commitment while on duty. They will work together with a small team to deliver healthcare to the island's small population of around 350.

Scottish getaways

Stronsay is home to picturesque beaches and bays that are known for their long stretches of sand and turquoise water. It also features a variety of shops and even a school.

The HiJOBS website states: "NHS Orkney's vision is to offer everyone in Orkney access to a NHS that helps them to keep well and provides them with high quality care when it is needed whilst employing a skilled and committed local workforce who are proud to work for NHS Orkney.

"The challenges of being the smallest health board in Scotland are immense. Not only does NHS Orkney have to adhere to the same guidelines as other larger territorial boards, but there are limitations on flexibility due to our extremely tight budget."

Other jobs that are currently available with NHS Orkney include a District Nurse Specialist Practitioner and a Salaried GP. More information can be found on the HiJOBS website.
