Queen of the South goal hero Pharrell Willis has spoken of his flip side.
The on loan Middlesbrough hit kid told how he kept his special goal celebration under wraps until he scored a “flipping” brilliant first goal.
Willis marked his debut for the club with a wonder winner at home to Montrose and said of the back flip: “I kept it from the lads because I knew everyone would be surprised when I did it.
“I wanted to do it one time in training after a good goal, but then thought I should save it for the main stage.
“So, because I am naturally a left winger, I was on the left side and once I took that touch inside and then I made that strike – thinking straight away it was a good strike – and it went in, then all the emotions just erupted.
“After the celebration Harry Cochrane jumped on my back and my legs were just gone. I just hit the ground straight away.
“When I was scoring when I was younger I did the backflips a lot, but this was obviously my first league game start for Queen of the South and my first goal so I thought I had to pull it
out.
“It was a good time to score and win after losing three games in a row.
“I am glad I did.
“Now, obviously, we have Alloa with a late kick off and that will be my first late one up here. Hopefully it is not too cold.”
Willis is relishing his call up to first team duty and aims to stay in the frontline.
He said: “This is my first loan and it wasn’t the greatest of starts, but I have just kept my head down and hope to prove myself to the manager and that he can trust me so hopefully now he will trust me.
“I think I have to keep humble, it is only just one goal
“But hopefully there’s plenty more to come – and the celebrations too.
“With it being on telly then I should have a couple more backflips.
“He does them a lot and he taught me. It is all about confidence.”
