ZIMBABWE senior men’s football team conducted its first training in South Africa on Monday afternoon ahead of the Group J AFCON Qualifier doubleheader against Namibia.

Monday’s training was mainly constituted by local players and those who ply their trade in South Africa.

Several European-based players are expected to join the camp on Tuesday, two days before the first match which is scheduled for Thursday the 10th of October.

Both fixtures against Namibia will be played at Orlando Stadium in South Africa, a neutral venue that both sides have picked as they do not have CAF-approved stadiums.

Speaking after Monday’s training session, Warriors coach Micheal Nees revealed that his team was in good shape.

“We still have to assemble, we are not yet complete but tomorrow we will be.

“Everybody arrived so far in a very good spirit, the players’ mood was also very good in Uganda.

“So we just have to acknowledge the characters we have in our squad,” said Nees.

Tinotenda Kadewere, Tawanda Chirewa and Munashe Garananga have been ruled out due to injuries.

The trio had been drafted into the squad and changes had to be made on Monday after their unavailability was confirmed.

Zimbabwe is currently occupying position 3 in Group J with 2 points, two behind Kenya and Cameroon who are occupying first and second position with 4 points, while Namibia is bottom with zero points.
