Crystal Palace boss reveals why he rejected Dean Henderson's Nottingham Forest apology

by · NottinghamshireLive

Oliver Glasner revealed Dean Henderson apologised for the mistake that allowed Chris Wood to score the only goal in Nottingham Forest’s victory over Crystal Palace.

Wood plundered his fifth Premier League goal of the season to lift the Reds to eighth in the table – but only after Henderson allowed the New Zealander’s drive to squirm underneath his hand.

Henderson, who was making his return to the City Ground where he enjoyed a successful but injury-curtailed loan spell in the 2022/23 season, acknowledged his error on the field – and according to Glasner off it too.

However, the Eagles boss says he wouldn’t hear of the 27-year-old taking becoming the fall guy. “He tried to apologise but I didn’t allow it,” Glasner said.

“It’s not to blame anybody, he made such big saves for us this season and last – it happens, it’s sport and they are all human.

“He doesn’t need to apologise for a mistake he makes. It’s always how we deal with them, the reaction of the team gives me a positive feeling for the next games.

“We know the challenges we have and we will need Dean and he will help us for sure.”

Henderson’s mistake from Wood’s strike meant Palace have failed to win in their first eight league games of a season for just the fourth time in their history. Following defeat, Palace sit 18th without a win and are the lowest scorers in the league.
