Rain or Shine’s Aaron Fuller goes up for a basket against Magnolia’s Ian Sangalang

AARON FULLER and Jhonard Clarito led Rain or Shine to a thrilling 111-106 overtime win over Magnolia for a 2-1 lead in Game 3 of their best-of-five quarterfinals series of Season 49 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City.

Fuller, whose left eye was poke by Ian Sangalang in 69-121 loss in Game 2 in Laguna, returned with a vengeance by racking up nine of his 29 points in the extension frame in addition to his 11 rebounds and six assists.

Down by 101-104 with 57 ticks to go in the overtime period, Fuller scored five straight points as Rain or Shine stole the lead, 106-104, with 18 ticks left before Zavier Lucero tied the count to 106-all deadlock with a layup.

Gian Mamuyac, who had 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists, hit one of two free throws with ten seconds left before Fuller got the crucial offensive rebound after Mamuyac’s missed. Fuller was fouled by Calvin Abueva with still eight seconds to go.

Fuller calmly sank both free throws, giving Rain or Shine a 109-106 lead. Clarito came from behind to steal the ball off Paul Lee during an inbound of Jabari Bird with six seconds left and made both free throws after he was fouled for the final count.

Clarito posted 18 points plus eight rebounds while Andrei Caracut had 15 points, Leonard Santillan added 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Beau Belga made 10 points also for the Elasto Painters, who can wrap up the series on Tuesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Bird led Magnolia with 31 points and 10 rebounds while Lucero had 24 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and three blocks to lead the Hotshots.

Lucero fired a four-point bomb for a 98-all deadlock with 13 ticks left in the regulation to force overtime after trailing by 18 points, 20-38, in the second period.
