Senior India batter Virat Kohli took a massive hit in his ICC rankings after a terrible showing against New Zealand. In the freshly announced ICC rankings on Wednesday, 6 November, Kohli dropped down 8 places in the Test batters' rankings. Kohli scored just 93 runs against New Zealand in 3 Test matches and is now ranked 22 in the ICC men's batters' rankings in the Test format.
Virat Kohli was exposed by off spinners, who turned the ball away from him. Both Kohli and Rohit failed in the Test series, resulting in a historic whitewash of India at home. New Zealand were the first ever team in the history of Test cricket who beat India 3-0 at home.
Virat Kohli's Decline: In Numbers
The Test batters' list is currently being led by Joe Root, who scored a double century in the Pakistan tour. Behind Root, there are Kane Williamson, Harry Brook, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Steve Smith, who occupy the top 5 spots. Rishabh Pant, who has been sensational since his return has gained 5 spots and is in the 6th place in the list. Pant and Jaiswal are the only 2 Indian batters in top 10 of the ICC Test batters' rankings.
Apart from these two, Shubman Gill, ranked 16, is the only India batter in the top 20 list.
India captain Rohit Sharma, who had an equally bad series as Virat Kohli, is ranked 26th, having dropped 2 spots.
