Harmanpreet Kaur faced discomfort with her neck as India faced an injury scare in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. With India on the threshold of victory against Fatima Sana’s Pakistan on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Harmanpreet walked off retired hurt.

In the fourth ball of the 18th over in India’s run-chase, Harmanpreet lost her balance while trying to play a lofted shot off Nida Dar. She ended up missing the ball altogether after which Muneeba Ali Siddiqui also fumbled and couldn’t dismiss the batter stumped.

Thereafter, Harmanpreet was seen holding on to her neck, after which she received some treatment from the physiotherapist. The Indian captain went off the park with the help of the support staff. It was Sajeevan Sajana who came out and hit the winning runs.

Harmanpreet scored 29 runs off 24 balls with one four. She was also involved in a partnership of 24 runs for the fifth wicket with Deepti Sharma.

India edge past Pakistan

India began their campaign after losing to Sophie Devine’s New Zealand by 58 runs in Dubai. Chasing 161, the Women in Blue were bowled out for 102 in 19 overs. But India made amends after beating Pakistan by six wickets. Arundhati Reddy won the Player of the Match award for picking up three wickets.

Shreyanka Patil picked up two wickets and made a comeback after struggling somewhat against the White Ferns. Asha Sobhana, Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh Thakur accounted for a scalp apiece. In their run-chase, India could not quite up the ante, but got past the finish line with seven balls to spare.

Shafali Verma top-scored for them with a 32-run knock at the top of the order. Jemimah Rodrigues could not hit the big shots, but added 23 vital runs. In the end, Harmanpreet’s vital knock guided India past the finish line.
