The veteran India spinner has had a mellow series so far, which directly impacted India's fortunes against New Zealand. Ashwin's returns have been low which resulted in India losing their first Test series agianst New Zealand at home.

Rachin Ravindra's wicket was the third one that New Zealand lost on Day 2 of the Test match. Both batters scored respective fifties and helped India get to 263 runs in their first innings.

While Pant got out for 60 off 59 balls, Gill fell just short of a well deserved century and got out for 90. After the duo's departure, Washington Sundar added a quickfire 38 and helped the Indian team cross New Zealand's first innings score.

After their batting, India started well with the ball on Day 2 and not have removed half the NZ batting line-up for 100 runs. At the time of writing, NZ are 109/5, leading India by 81 runs.
